The First Elders Letter (there was no basis for this letter)

updated 25 Feb 2007

This is the first letter from the elders making serious allegations. It followed an Elders Meeting on 18 September 2003 and the decision made in secret to discipline the Pendergasts without their input. On the 20th September by phone and email Kevin Phillips ordered the Pendergasts to attend a meeting on 22nd September 2003 to hear their decision. The Pendergast were somewhat surprised a decision was made without their input and since a meeting to get the issues out in the open had been held just prior. It would appear Kevin Phillips had broken an agreement to keep the contents of the meeting on 14th September 2003 confidential and in any case in concert with Pastor Wallace & Cumberlin had made false allegations against the Pendergasts in their absense. It would turn out that this was nothing short of a conspiracy and collusion by Kevin Phillips, Rev Wallace and Rev Cumberlin to fraudulently accuse the Pendergasts of crimes they had not committed. For what purpose?

Since the Pendergasts had UK relatives in town they asked the Elders for an alternative date. Kevin Phillips refused to delay the meeting and so the attached letter was sent.

At a meeting held on Sept 28th 2004 Kevin Phillips finally admitted that there was no basis for the complaints except for a single email sent to Elder Denise Chaulk on September 15th 2003. The email was sent to Denise as a friend and spiritual advisor in confidence. Shortly before Wayne and Denise Chaulk had shared their own concerns about Pastors Wallaces excessively controlling manner.

Formal Request To Craig Edwards - Clerk to the Elders September 2003

Will the Elders provide access to the minutes of the 18th September 2003 meeting in order to show exactly what was discussed and action agreed. Was it as set out in the elders letter of 22nd September 2003 with mulitiple infractions or as Kevin Phillip confirmed in September 2004 a single email sent to Denise Chauk. Did the Elders consider Denise Chaulk's email reply? Did Denise Chaulk share her prior discussions with the Pendergasts and others about Pastor Wallaces controlling manner? Why did Denise Chaulk not exclude herself from the decision making process?. Did Pastor Wallace report his forgiveness process with the Pendergasts? There seems to be some confusion as to what was agreed. Please can Craig Edwards the Elder's Clerk at the time please clarify.
