Denise Chaulk Phone Call Record & Emails
revised Jan 13 2006
21oct03 File Note Barry has a phone conversation with Denise Chaulk
Denise (an elder & long time friend) telephoned around 4:00pm -crying/sobbing why wont we meet the elders. Made it clear we had been abused in the past by Pastor Jim Wallace, Pastor Marg Cumberlin and Kevin Phillips the elder chairman and would need an intermediary to ensure we could speak freely to the elders. I noted the abusive way the messenger tried to deliver the envelope - said it wasn't the elder's problem. Said we would get back to the elders when we and our advisors felt it was right. She was very unsettled by my comments about Marg Cumberlin- she said she thought we loved her - we said we thought we did also until this mess started then we found out how many people the two had abused. She refused to accept my comments about Marg. Said if we had concerns about the Wallace and Cumberlin we should tell the elders - I said we doubted we would get a fair hearing without an intermediary.
I also reminded her she has sat with her husband on our deck and made very uncomplimentary comments about Jim Wallace's capability as a pastor
Eventually Denise was so difficult to understand with her crying I put the phone down.

You're never far from my thoughts and prayers and my heart aches for you. I
plead with you once again, won't you please take the step of coming and
speaking with the elders - those who have been charged with the
responsibility of watching over the local church? I am utterly heartsick
that you can't see our position in this - we want to be reconciled - and we
want to honour God in the way we handle this. We're meeting yet again this
Saturday to go over your letter and will no doubt be in touch with you after
that. I need you to know that Wayne has not been a party to any of our
decisions nor is he aware of what has transpired during our meetings, and is
deeply grieving for you both, as am I, but it seems you can't believe that
about me or the other elders right now. My heart is for the Bride of
Christ - that it not be torn apart - that we be "one".

We have always agreed to meet with the elders, but have simply requested
that there be a third party there to make sure that the meeting is fair.
Thank you for your words and prayers but the decisions made and actions
taken by the elders simply do not match your comments. Specifically, the
elders did not reply to our request for a meeting, but instead made
public announcements in church that our memberships had been terminated.
This could only be expected to hurt us, damage our reputation within our
faith community and make matters worse.
We pray that the elders will agree to meet with us and restore our
membership.
