Elder Selection 2002

Updated 10th May 2005

Many questions arise over the elder selection process at South Calgary. Some questions will be posed when more research has been done on an acceptable policy. Seemed the congregation was given very little opportunity for real input. At South Calgary the Elders made the selection and had it endorsed by the congregation. Should alternatives have be put up for election?

This notice appeared in 2002. Out of 35 candidates Craig Edwards was selected even though he had only attended the church for less than two years. Seemed like many good candidates may have been passed over.

Also coming across a 2001 address book there were only 4 non pastoral elders now there are many more. The appointment of Diane Young was the first time a single lady had beeen selected.

Any comments/suggestions on elder the selection process would be appreciated. How many Elders might be appropriate in a 250-300 member congregation? Please write to info@bleatinglambs.org
