The Evidence
updated 5 May 2003
THE EMAIL THAT WAS THE SINGLE REASON THE ELDERS EXCOMMUNICATED THE PENDERGASTS - The single piece of evidence presented by Kevin Phillips in September 2004 before the mediator. If this was the case why did Kevin Phillips, Rev Wallace and Rev Cumberlin present multiple unsubstantiated evidence to their fellow elders 18th September 2003. Time to tell the truth Kevin.
This email was sent to Denise Chalk an elder, friend and spiritual advisor to the Pendergasts. It was not assumed she would disclose it to the other elders in view of her, and her husbands open comments about Rev Wallace being a very 'controlling' person. Her email in reply to this alludes to this. Its time for Denise Chauk to tell the truth of exactly what happened at the 18 September 2003 Elders meeting - what evidence was presented?- was it a single email as Kevin Phillips stated September 2004? Or was it unsubstantiated evidence presented by Kevin, Pastor Wallace and Pastor Cumberlin. Denise please help clear up this situation.
It was quickly becoming clear that this issue with the Pendergasts was part of a pattern of abuse carried out over the years by pastors and some elders. Many would stand to one side and enable the abuse to happen. Raise a legitimate concern and you could expect trouble. You were told if you did not like it you should leave - great way to problem solve - never mind it not being a sound Christian approach!

Denise
Please pray for us - We are in the depths of despair right now feeling very low - can't see we will be much longer at SCCC. Cannot understand why this is happening to us. Our feelings almost match what we went through when Simon died.
We did meet with Kevin, Jim and Marg last night yet we feel more hurt than ever. We did go through some degree of forgiveness process but with Jim's method it feels more like intimidation - very cold.
Certainly most of the issues on the table but so much mistruth and terrible communication. Seems you must never have all the people concerned in the room at the same time, rather you can make up what other people said or did. Seems both Jim and Marg retain the right to make decisions on their own with no consultation at all - especially if Barton makes a request. Tried to say that was a conflict but had little success. Seems things not allowed in a secular world are fine in
a church. Can't see where this is a caring church or there is a desire for authentic relationships. All we heard from Jim is what a tough demanding life he has - very woeful and very little joy and there are too many demands on him. Yet he has to have control over everything.
We feel we have been robbed of using our gifts in a loving church. Sure we will find another - certainly have not lost our love to use the power of His love in our daily life
Did chat with a past youth pastor - he said he was very upset as he was promised nothing like this would ever happen again at the last reconciliation. Left meeting being told that we must not talk to anyone as it was all confidential and what was said in that room should remain there. So many people hurt in the cycles of abuse and reconciliation in
this church because of one controlling man.
Sorry to dump on you and Wayne but feel so alone and isolated. Believe that the truth will set us all free when we are all held accountable before God . Please pray for peace, truth , discernment, unity and
God's grace.
God Bless you both,
Barry & Jennifer

Subject: I'm praying
Dear Barry & Jenny:
I will most certainly continue in prayer for you both - I love you. Pastor Jim is accountable to us as the elders and we have had extensive discussion and prayer over this matter with him. I believe that we all need to be accountable along the lines of accountability laid out in our constitution. (I further believe we have been guided
by God in the way our church's governance operates and that it is in accordance with scripture.) Sadly, we did not have such accountability
at SCCF.
Love Denise
